Tournament # 5

This was a very tough day for me – I fished solo.  My partner was fishing his 100% TOC.  It was a nice rainy day with little wind.  First place I started was up near Union Point – had a high incoming tide.  Could not get anything going, so then fished down Victoria.  Was unable to get bit there due to the clear water.  Ran all the way down to Grant Line, and couldn’t get anything going.  Wondered what to do.  Knew the tide had already topped out and was outgoing at this point.  Ran over to Widow’s Island and started throwing my 5/8 ounce jig at the mouth of Widow’s, fishing a deep ledge, from 10 – 20 feet deep.  I was letting my jig sit on the bottom.  First fish of the day was a 5.02 big fish.  After my big fish, I was unable to get bit off the jig again.  I switched over to a chrome and blue rattletrap.  Caught two small ones – one was a keeper.  By this time, it was already 1 pm.  Thought to myself that I’d fish the rest of the day in Grant Line, fishing on the island in between the weed pocket and the bank.  I started fishing a black and chartreuse spinner bait w/ chartreuse blades, and on about my fifth cast, I stuck my 3rd keeper which was about 2.5 pounds.  Proceeded down the bank towards the marina with very few bites.  It’s about 3 pm at this time and I have 3 fish in the livewell, basically praying for 2 more good quality bites.  At about 3:15 pm, the rain starts coming down really good.  Puts a good chop on the water and the fish were postioned right where they should’ve been.  I got 2 more keepers, and my last fish was at 3:40 pm.  Weigh-in was 3:45 pm.  Headed in and I took 7th place with 13.67 for 5 fish.  With 3 Saturday tournaments down, we’re sitting in 3rd place overall.
